Who can participate?

Everyone of age 16 to 25 who identify themselves female is welcome to participate. You don’t need to be a Nazarbayev University student.

Can I participate if I am new to programming?

Yes, we encourage everyone interested in programming to join us.  All you need to know is the basics of at least one Object-oriented programming language.

There will be three tracks depending on your level: novice, intermediate, experienced (see details above). Your level will be determined according to the results of qualifier test on HackerRank.

Do I have to know English?

No, you don’t have to. codeW will be held in three different languages: English, Kazakh, and Russian. All tasks and materials from workshops will be translated into Russian and Kazakh languages.

Where will codeW be held? 

Our event will take place at Nazarbayev University. The exact venues will be announced later.

How do I know which track is suitable for me?

If you got selected, you will receive a link to the preliminary challenge that will identify your level and we will match you to a suitable track.

What programming languages are accepted in the contest?

The contest will be held using a special platform where all commonly used programming languages are supported (e.g. Java, Python, C++ but not Prolog, OCaml, etc.)

Is it possible to participate remotely?

Unfortunately, remote participation in our event is not possible.

Is it free?

Yes, it is absolutely free. Moreover, you will be provided with our merch,  lunch and coffee breaks.

What do I need to bring?

Bring your laptop, charger and your National ID. If you do not have laptops, please contact us beforehand via e-mail. We will do our best to provide you with laptops but please bear in mind that we do not guarantee that there will be enough of them.

Will you provide participants with invitation letter?

We can provide an official invitation letter in case if you need one. After confirmation of your participation, we will send detailed instructions about how to get an invitation letter. Stay tuned and wait for updates!

For non-Nur-Sultan residents

Is this event only for Nur-Sultan residents? 

No, residents of all cities in Kazakhstan are welcome to participate in codeW. However, non-Nur-Sultan citizens under 18 years should take responsibility for accompaniment issues.

Unfortunately, we will not provide travel grants for non-Nur-Sultan citizens. 

Will participants be provided with accommodation during the event?

Currently, we can’t give an exact answer. We may provide non-Nur-Sultan residents with accommodation, but the final decision will be announced after February 7.
